             Medical transcription is the process of taking audio recordings of dictated medical notes by a doctor or other healthcare professional and transcribing them into an electronic document. The transcribed documents are used to document patient visits, diagnoses, treatments, medications, and other health information.

Duties of medical transcriptionist:

1. Listen to and transcribe audio recordings from physicians and other healthcare professionals. 
2. Transcribe dictations that may include medical histories, physical examinations, laboratory results, operative reports, diagnostic imaging studies, referral letters and discharge summaries. 
3. Review and edit transcribed documents for accuracy, completeness, grammar, punctuation, syntax and proper medical terminology. 
4. Ensure that documents meet legal and quality standards. 
5. Maintain confidentiality of patient information. 
6. Monitor and update transcription databases. 
7. Research medical terminology to ensure accuracy. 
8. Proofread, format, and print documents. 
9. Follow up with physicians to clarify difficult dictation. 
10. Track and update patient records.
